O: SANDSTONE PEAK

Year 2000 was quite the non-event.  Those in the know will tell you however that the REAL new millennium starts this coming January, and who knows what that means?  Los Angeles has oft been depicted as the magnet for disasters of biblical proportions - earthquakes, volcanoes, and the occasional asteroid. Wouldn't be the city's passing resemblance to Sodom or Gomorrah at times, eh?  High ground is not a bad place to be in such circumstances.  The leaders will give you some practice with a 6-7 mile, 1500 foot vertical gain hike going by Sandstone Peak the highest point in the Santa Monica Mountains, with excellent views when clear.  Meet 9:30am at the West Los Angeles carpool point, or 10:30am at the Malibu carpool point.  To reach the Malibu carpool point, turn off Pacific Coast Highway at Cross Creek Road whether coming from the north / west (turn left) or south / east (turn right).  The Malibu pier should be within sight.  After turning on Cross Creek, make a left after one block at Civic Center Way to the Malibu Civic Center parking lot.  If there’s an interest, we’ll stop off at a local Malibu joint afterwards for an early dinner. Bring minimum 1quart liquid, lunch/snack, and lugsole-style hiking boots.  Leaders: GARY CROW & DAVE HEFFERNAN
