Alpine Ski Mountaineering Committee

(tree) Alpine Ski Mountaineering Committee provides an opportunity for downhill thrill seekers to get away from lift lines and crowded slopes and to enjoy winter's quiet majesty and virgin back country snow, Alpine style. We ski mountainous terrain using skiing skills and equipment with which downhill skiers are already familiar—Alpine or randonnee. To maximize fun and safety our tours are planned where spring conditions (corn snow and sunshine) are most likely to prevail (Jan-Mar in local mtns, Apr-Jun in Sierra). All tours allow for varying degrees of ability, from intermediate bowls to expert chutes.

(tree) Participation: Open to anyone who demonstrates adequate skills while descending an intermediate slope (typical black diamond run at a resort) in variable snow conditions. We're looking for controlled, confident descents, not necessarily style. Prior experience at a ski resort required. We'll show you how to safely tour the mtns in winter—we expect you to know how to get down. Regular downhill gear is acceptable for checkouts. Since we climb the slopes we ski, good physical condition is also a requirement.
