Simmering with Whiperlite Part 2

The reason why Whisperlites don't want to simmer after a full-bore boiling session is that a lot of pressure has built up inside the fuel bottle: handy for boiling, bad for simmering.

One solution is to flip the bottle 180 degrees around the hose, until it's "upside-down," and the pump's pickup tube is sucking fumes. In a few seconds, as much pressure as you wish will bleed out into the still-lit stove. Flip the bottle back, turn down the burner, and you're set. If you bled off too much, give the pump ONE stroke. Over-pumping will also prevent simmering.

CAUTION: do not try this (or any other stove activity) inside your tent!
