Minutes of the March 12th Management Committee Meeting

The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. Board members present were Grace Hengst, Eric Sas, Judy Demarah, Mike Brostoff, and Rick Mitchell. Also present was Outings Chair, Will McWhinney.

Old Business: Due to a scheduling conflict with the Long Beach Gay Pride Festival, the upcoming GLS Awards Banquet, originally scheduled for May 18th, was rescheduled to Sunday, May12th. The rest of the Awards/Dinner Dance plans are coming along and will be finalized soon. So far the dancing part may have to be scrapped, as the space required will put the event into a much higher price range. Gay Pride Long Beach (May 18/19) and L.A . (June 22/23) will be coordinated by Nancy Beverly. The Board approved that the additional cost required to become a “vendor” be paid as we could make up the difference in sales of various items that proved attractive in the past- such as caps, duffel bags, patches, etc. A suggestion was also made that because our old photo boards are falling apart, new banner(s) should be designed and made that would incorporate more recent pictures of trips and be used as a more permanent part of the display.Nancy Beverly will research costs and e-mail her results to the Board.

New Business: Pursuant to Section 2.3.2 of the GLS Bylaws, the commitee convened a private session to discuss some sensitive issues. No vote was needed or taken.

Outreach/Membership: We need to increasing our web accessibility and publicity, in hopes that we can share links, or list trips, with other GLS groups, or other LGBT activity groups/ orgs, such as IGLOO, or METRO G. Mike will follow up on that. We need to find someone who will be responsible for the voice mail messages received from the hotline. Jude volunteered.

Outings: Will announced that five GLS trips will be listed in the next Chapter Schedule. We need to encourage leaders to send in the trip sign in sheets so that they can be kept as required by the LA Chapter Outings Committee. Several suggestions were offered and discussed, and the resolution was proposed and accepted that Will could include reminder tips to leaders in the weekly or periodic emails about outings.

Conservation: No conservation update was made as Tom is out of town. The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m. The next Management Committee Meeting will be

held on May 14, 2002 at 7:30 pm. The Management Committee wishes to extend an invitation to all GLS members who wish to attend this open meeting. Your interest and participation is vital to the health of the organization. For address and direction please call Eric Sas.
