Stay Warm In and Out of Exposure

When crossing passes, or any high-country terrain where you walk in and out of sun and wind exposure, take your lightweight wool gloves and stocking cap and fix them somewhere where you can put them on and take them off without stopping. Pockets, stuffed under pack straps or fittings, little spring clips on your belt -- whatever it takes. Gloves and cap let you regulate temperature quickly and easily, so you don't get too hot or too cold as conditions change.
