About The Hundred Peaks Section

The Hundred Peaks Section is a special interest section of the Angeles Chapter of the Sierra Club. Special interest sections are not limited to geographical area of the chapter so we have members from all over the Southern California area.

Our special interest is peakbagging. We love to climb the local mountains. In our case this covers an area from the Southern Sierras to near the Mexican Border and from Caliente Mountain in San Luis Obispo County to Rabbit Peak near the Salton Sea. We keep an official list of peaks, the HPS Peak List, containing over 270 peaks in this area.

Most HPS members are goal oriented climbers. We give special recognition to members who climb 100 peaks on this list. This in fact is the origin of our name, Hundered Peaks Section. We also give special recognition to other hiking accomplishments.

The HPS also holds several social functions for its members. In addition the our monthly meetings in Griffith Park, we have an annual awards banquet held in late January and a party at Harwood Lodge in October.
